Some time ago, Fien (my boyfriend’s sister) talked to me about this place in Antwerp that sells only chocolate things: chocolate ice cream, chocolate milkshake, chocolate cake, etc. I was immediately interested and we set up an appointment to go together around a week ago.
This is how I got introduced to “Quetzal: Chocolate Bar”. They have 3 different branches in Belgium and the one I attended is located in the loveliest spot in the middle of Antwerp city. Lijnwaadmarkt is very close to both the Groenplaats and the Grote Markt, the most centrical and popular squares in Antwerp. This is a very historical area, with beautiful buildings, cute shops and cozy small streets interlacing between each other.
Among all these, you’ll be able to find Quetzal, surrounded by some other cafés. The weather is super nice at the moment, so you’ll notice several tables set outside, colorful umbrellas, live music and, in general, a very good atmosphere.
The only way of making this better was by indulging into some delicious chocolate dish.
Quetzal offers: hot chocolates, chocolate cocktails (!!!), a variety of coffees and teas, milkshakes, smoothies, ice-creams (my favorite part), chocolate fountains, etc.
Upon arrival, the host immediately recommended us what seems to be the most popular dessert during summer: a combination of vanilla ice cream with small pieces of their home-made brownie, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and optional fruit (read strawberry in my case). This sounded just like heaven. What I liked a lot is that you get to choose the type of chocolate sauce you’d like: white, light brown, brown or dark.
Fien went for something very similar, combining vanilla ice cream with strawberries, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and mini-marshmallows, they looked super cute and were very tasty!
You have the option of putting your favorite combination together, I approved of this!
Quetzal works with the brand Callebaut for all their chocolates dishes; this is known as one of the finest belgian chocolate brands out there.
I’d say if you’re around in Antwerp and would like to try a super well executed and creative chocolate combination, do not hesitate to check out Quetzal, you won’t be disappointed!
